Co-Planning in Co-Teaching Guide

Introduction

The following steps are helpful for co-planning in co-teaching.

Step 1: Analyze the Lesson Goal

Read the lesson plan with your students in mind and consider:

  • What is the goal of the lesson?
  • When will our students be able to leverage their strengths during this lesson?
  • When might students experience barriers to learning during this lesson?

Step 2: Identify Evidence-based Supports and Interventions

Research evidence-based strategies for scaffolding success or intervening to build student skills.

Steps 3 & 4: Identify an Aligned Co-Teaching Model and Intentionally Assign Roles

  • Choose a co-teaching model that will support your instructional goals
  • Decide who will do what within that model (leveraging your strengths!)
  • Annotate the lesson plan to reflect each of your roles
