Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education - Research and Resources

Introduction to a special issue of The New Educator that "illuminates and chronicles teacher education efforts that center culturally relevant/responsive pedagogical practices for preservice and inservice educators."

Villegas and Lucas suggest that in order to effectively prepare culturally responsive teachers, teacher educators must first be able to "articulate a vision of teaching and learning in a diverse society and use that vision to systematically guide the infusion of multicultural issues throughout the preservice curriculum." The authors provide a base framework of such a vision, intended to serve as a starting point for conversations among teacher educators.
