Students with strong number sense:
- Understand what numbers mean and the relative magnitude of several numbers
- Understand how numbers can be taken apart and put together in different ways
- Understand the relationships between addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Are able to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division accurately and efficiently in their heads
- Are able to make reasonable estimates
Number sense enables people to accurately and creatively solve problems and determine whether their solutions are reasonable.
